SMBus IBM driver installation

#1 Post by dvorak » Sat Apr 09, 2005 6:04 am

Under Device Manager I uninstalled the two "devices" that were listed under SMBus group in an attempt to reinstall them later, I've been having random blue screens due to these drivers (smbusdh.sys smbusd.sys etc).

Now I'm having a problem reinstalling them, Windows itself didn't find any not-installed devices, reinstalling the chipset drivers from IBMTools also doesn't bring the group "SMBus" (or something named like that) back.

Under System Devices there is a SMBus Controller, but not as a seperate group with a grayish icon as there was before (above Universal Serial Bus controllers group)

Everything seems to work, although I'm not sure what differences there are not running IBM SMBus drivers.

Googling with site:ibm nor IBM's own search engine hasn't helped yet.

Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

If it helps any, I have the "Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM SMBus Controller - 24C3" showing under System Devices in Device manager. The driver is provided by Intel, dated 7/2/2001 and is version 4.0.1001.0

Thanks for your help although I've got that listing there too.
I'm trying to find a way to reinstall those drivers that were produced by IBM, those are not listed under "System Devices" but have their own group, just above the last one (USB controllers). When you click Driver Details button they list smbusdh.sys, smbusd.sys etc.

I'm having a weird lag when I resume from standby too, takes about 8 seconds for the picture to come up, 5 of those seconds are total silence while the HDD turns although no I don't hear any reading sounds. Seems more like a "waiting" mode, like the long wait I have to bear while waking from hibernation. Really peculiar.

Could anyone help me and provide me with a little info:
I think I was able to reinstall the System Management Bus controllers with some .inf files that came with IBM Director 3.11 fix.
But now I would like to know what listings do you have under Device Manager > System Management Bus controllers and what would the driver versions be.

I've currently got:
IBM - SMB Device Hub - 6.1.0.24 / 28.04.2004
IBM - (ICH4) SMB Host controller - 6.1.0.24 / 28.04.2004

Thanks in advance.
