Brand new laptop: error! not support wireless lan in system
Bought a Y460P and received it today. The sales rep promised the Intel 6230 dual-band wifi chip would work. It does. But, the BIOs does not have it in the whitelist. Therefore, I keep getting a message on boot stating "error! not support wireless lan in system". I have to hit F1 every time to continue onward. The wifi card works 110% on Win7 and on Ubuntu.
I've searched Google like mad trying to find a solution but have not succeeded. There may have been one at one point, but a bios website which discussed it is offline and apparently defunct. What I realize is that there are possible options: third-party BIOs, hacking the BIOs, or hacking the PCI-ID of the wifi adapter.
However, I have no clue about the last two options. And, the first option has turned up on hits on a Google search.
Can anyone advise me on how to get this resolved?

Is this card a Lenovo branded card?
It has to be a Lenovo branded card, not a generic card or one for another manufacturer.

It's an Intel Wifi 6230 chip. Intel brand. Can I buy a Lenovo branded dual-band chip somewhere?topmahof wrote:Is this card a Lenovo branded card?

Find out if the card has a Lenovo FRU number on it somewhere. Should be a sticker.derekcentrico wrote:It's an Intel Wifi 6230 chip. Intel brand. Can I buy a Lenovo branded dual-band chip somewhere?
If it doesn't, it's a generic or has been ripped off. Check Ebay for a Lenovo wifi card.

Well this is from an OEM. Lenovo doesn't offer any dual-band cards, at least in the Ideapad series. So I wonder if there would be any available as dual-band at all... Ebay shows some claiming to be Lenovo-enabled for Thinkpad but not Ideapads in my search.Brian10161 wrote:Find out if the card has a Lenovo FRU number on it somewhere. Should be a sticker.
