Keyboard Fn problem - alternate fix?

#1 Post by madkat » Tue Dec 06, 2011 5:58 am

Hello
Just have built a Frankenpad (see my sig) - basically it's nearly a "normal" T43.
but the keyboard has the fn and left-shift key unoperable. And as everybody knows, the r5x keyboard don't fit the t4x 14' chassis...

first - is this a known and/or fixable issue?
second - is there any "emulator" software foe the fn? because now i have set the brightness to a suitable level using the r5x keyboard, but i'd like to have further acces to this and the thinklight...

thanks

FYI: T4x and R5x keyboards for the same size unit are identical...

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for, but have you considered the Keyboard Customizer Utility for Windows 2000, XP - ThinkPad? Try, using Google, to search for: "thinkpad keyboard customizer site:forum.thinkpads.com" and read more.

Another (potential!) option may be to use the "AutoHotKey" utility... see e.g. Switching FN Key with CTRL? Try search this forum for "AutoHotKey" and you will learn more (again, use e.g. Google and search for "AutoHotkey site:forum.thinkpads.com"). Finally (for now!), see the thread Fn keys - remap - there's yet another solution! :-)

@johan - looked into the links... none of the solutions "recognizes" the fn key :(

The R5x 15' keyboard won't fit a T4x 14' chasis because of the screws' positions.

X200 - P8600 2.66Ghz, 3G, 250G

This is true. However, all you wrote was:

you're right - to "fit" can have several meanings :)

X200 - P8600 2.66Ghz, 3G, 250G

Problem solved, the "hard" way.

Detached the screw fittings on the r52 keyboard, and refitted them with epoxy adhesive in the positions suitable for T43.
Now typing on it, and working perfectly.
ex: T30, TR451, TR453, R51, R52, X40, X60, R61, T400
