1x8 GB Ram T410
1x8 GB Ram T410
Has anyone successfully installed and had Windows 7 boot with a 1x8 SODIMM? I installed one in my T410 and the BIOS recognized the memory, I ran Memtest86+ and Windows Memory Test and all was good, however Windows 7 would start booting and then stop before the gui, I tried Safe Mode and it stopped at CLASSPNP.SYS. I tried Linux x64 distros and it loads off a Thumb drive and recognizes all the memory but will not install on a HD. Windows 7 will not install on HD either.
The ram is Corsair 8 GB SODIMM, I have a Corsair 4 GB simm that works great in the T410.
TIA for any input

Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
I'll let you know in a few days, I have a stick of this coming for my T410: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820226264. I went with slight different speed / timings to match the 4gb stick I already had in the machine (and also, hopefully, to avoid any compatibility issues - fingers crossed...).

I did even greater mistake, for thinkpad t410-2218x01 i have ordered this memory pack
Corsair 8GB 1333mhz PC3-10666 204-pin DDR3 SODIMM Laptop Memory Kit CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9
By any chance can this work on my laptop or should buy DDR3 PC-8500 instead?

And odd problem to have. Since diagnostics come back clean and you are still having OS problems I am inclined to think the problem isn't the memory.indicium wrote:Has anyone successfully installed and had Windows 7 boot with a 1x8 SODIMM? Should. There isn't too much ram incompatibility these days in consumer hardware.registoni wrote:I did even greater mistake, for thinkpad t410-2218x01 i have ordered this memory pack

Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
I look forward to hearing your result on the memory from Newegg. I have read some reports of problems with Corsair memory on Thinkpads. But, I have seen reports that some have put 16GB in T410 & T510's.
As to the boot problem, Its as if the OS can't find the HD. I have tried two HD's the original Seagate 320 Gig and its replacement Seagate 750 Gig. The error I usually get after trying to boot on the next reboot is that a device is inaccessable (0xc000000e) upon taking out the 8 Gig ram everything works fine.

Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
BIOS is up todate, version 1.39 I think that it might have been the Corsair memory. I returned it. I will try a different brand after the holidays.
Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
To my knowledge, the i5-5x0m and i7-6x0m processors used in the T410's will only support a total of 8GB RAM. I don't think you can do more than 4GB per slot in this machine. I could be wrong, I guess.
I think you have to go to the sandy bridge stuff to support the 8GB sticks.

Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
Supposedly some T410 and T510 owners have put 8 GB sticks in their machines and it has worked. I think it was the Corsair memory as it did POST ok and the BIOS recognized it but it seemed to not like the HD. Linux would boot fine off a USB Flash Drive but again not off the HD even with the 8 GB the only memory in the system.
Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
I picked up a Crucial 8GB SODIMM yesterday and the same thing happened this morning, It would POST but not complete booting. The Device inaccesssabe error popped up again. I noticed that the AHCI driver was older so I will update that and try again. If it didn't POST, I could understand that it wouldn't work, but it seems to be something else that's stoping it in mid boot. I may switch back to IDE and Compatibilty Mode and try that too.
Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
I have deduced that Window 7 is stalling after it loads disk.sys and then can't seem to read the HD anymore.
Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
I received my 1x8gb of Mushkin RAM in the mail today and no joy. It will post and detect the RAM in the BIOS, but will not boot into Ubuntu. Also, if I try and run Memtest86+, it will run for about 30 seconds and then reboot the machine.

wolfman,
That's what keeps happening to me. I can boot Ubuntu and openSuse from flash drive and access the HD but can't boot from the HD. I even tried with the 8GB by itself in Slot 0 and the same the still happens.

I'm using 1.39 which was the most current as of the beginning of December, I had been using 1.28 but upgraded after my first failure. This weekend I'm going to try and install Linux on a different HD.

OK, I'm giving up, tried resetting the BIOS, starting with command prompt and basic drivers. Nothing works, probably time to wait for the new Thinkpads in 2012.

Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
Yea, I think I am going to do the same, sad to say. There isn't anything wrong with the speed of my T410, it stinks that it can recognize the RAM and not boot with it. Shame to have to buy a machine *just* for access to more RAM.indicium wrote:OK, I'm giving up, tried resetting the BIOS, starting with command prompt and basic drivers. Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
I agree with you Wolfman, my reason is I do lots of virtualization and got a 750 GB HD to store them and wanted more memory to run multiple VM's at the same time.
Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
I have the same use case. I have a large drive in an ultrabay adapter and an SSD in the primary bay. Works well except that I've got to build all my VM's (except one) as command line only VM's to keep memory consumption down.

Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
Curiosity got the better of me.
I just took out an almost new T410 and installed Lenovo FRU 03X6401 8Gb x 1 DDR3 memory in the bottom slot and the computer started normally. Then I removed the keyboard and installed another in the top slot and again the computer started normally. 16Gb is reported in the BIOS. 32 bit Windows 7 reports 16.0Gb (2.92Gb usable).
Send me a PM if you are interested in any.
Brad

Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
Brad,
How come this FRU doesn't show up on the Lenovo website or am I missing it? What's so special about this memory?
Is this memory Elpida? And if it is how is it different from Crucial or Corsair?

Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
Also, out of curiosity because I saw a similar sequence on another thread with an X201, were you able to boot a 64 bit operating system in that T410? Someone had posted in another thread that a X201 with XP Pro had booted fine, but the same RAM in a slightly different X201 with Windows 7 64 bit would not boot. Thanks!

Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
I hadn't thought of trying 32 bit Windows (XP, Vista and 7) I only use 64 Windows 7 and Linux for my Host and VM's except for XP Mode and Vista (Wife has Vista, so I keep it around). If I have some time this weekend I may try it.

I searched for it on google and it gave me this:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail. ... MIGR-77531
Apparently it is available on several ThinkPad X1 configurations that use Sandy Bridge processors like the 2520m, etc. I still can't find an occurrence in my searching where a Nehalem based mobile processor and chipset could handle it.
So, I'm still skeptical that this is going to work with Windows 7 64bit. Getting the computer to see it and getting it to address it are two different things.
Brad, Would you happen to have a T410 on hand with 64 bit loaded to test with?

Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
I found a copy of Windows 7 32bit that I'm going to try this weekend since one my server drives (2.5") will be temporarily available. Server maintenance.
Re: 1x8 GB Ram T410
I prepared a new hard drive in the T410 with 64 bit recovery media. Unfortunately I did not get far. The T410 hangs with a blank LCD. I removed one 8Gb chip and I get a few seconds further and then a blue screen.
When I installed the two 8Gb chips in the T410 originally I didn't realize the OS was 32 bit. What would be the sense of 16Gb of memory with a 32 bit OS.
I took the two 8Gb chips and installed them in the X201s. The OS won't load. No blue screen just freezes on start.
Installed the two 8Gb chips in the W510 quad core and there is now 24Gb installed and I am typing on this ThinkPad right now.
I apologize for getting the T410 16Gb fans reason for hope.
