Shimmer/Glitter effect on t420 cover?

#1 Post by thinkpaderic » Thu Dec 15, 2011 9:40 pm

Is this what it is supposed to look like at an angle and in light?

I find it tacky and not what i expected from a thinkpad, I figured it'd be straight black?

As far as I know all the Thinkpads with rubberized coating have these tiny reflective particles. The oldest thinkpad I've owned was a T23 (built in 2002) and I remember it had this effect as well. I think it does get dull over time. Thinkpads without the rubberized coating like the R series didn't have this and were straight black.

I don't think this is a new Lenovo feature (otherwise people would be complaining ).

My 600X and 600 don't have nearly as many reflective particles as my T420, but it looks like they do have some. My T41 and T43p, on the other hand, absolutely do have a similar coating (although it's over a metal base rather than a CFRP one.)
