My T42

#1 Post by oeuvre » Sat Dec 17, 2011 3:08 pm

My sister got a T42 back in 2005 for college and she hated the thing. She didn't take care of it well either, but it survived her after 4 years. She got a Macbook in 2009 and gave me her T42 over the summer. I love this thing. 1.7Ghz and I upgraded it to a 160GB HD and 2GB RAM, it runs XP SP3 and it's a great laptop.

A few drawbacks though -
She managed to damage one of the hinges. Display is fine and the hinge isn't much of an issue cause the other one is functional. The battery lasts up to 10-20 minutes. I think it's cause its the original one, but I leave it plugged in whenever I use it regardless.
It's the 14" one with the 1024x768 res. Kinda small resolution, but I got used to it.

The machine is one of the most well-thought out designs I've ever seen in a laptop. Rock solid too... I accidentally dropped it the other day and everyone in my college class thought it was gone. They were shocked that nothing happened to it. I could go on and on but I'm sure you've all heard it by now :P

My other machine is a 17" MacBook Pro, 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM OS X Lion/7-64 Ultimate, 640GB 7200RPM HD. Pretty good machine. Next laptop I get will definitely be a ThinkPad.
