Any here getting resonable performace from the centrino wireless card in linux. I have the drivers installed (from the ip2200 source forge site) and I can get it to work except that its performance is very unreilable. I was just wondering if anyone here might have some experience with it. Thanks
Unreliable as packet loss and/or disconnection or low transfer rate. I used the ipw2200 when it was in v0.19 and it work quite good for me. Didn't transfer big files though. What is your connection setup (WEP? WPA? b/g? etc.)
IBM ThinkPad T42 2378-FVU: Pentium M 735 (1.7GHz), 768MB RAM, Radeon 9600 64MB, 14.1" SXGA+, Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG
Performance Intel 2200BG on Linux
Well, for performance's sake there is no problem but like Puco said, I don't use the latest version since I had trouble with kernel 2.6.10-770 from Fedora Core 3 so I downgraded to 0.22.
For connectivity problem, I have trouble with it too. I have b/g three routers in my home and Linux performed differently. The problem might not be with the intel b/g card but (compatibility) with your router.
Another problem I found with Linux FC3 is reliablity. After a heavy usage of network thorough wireless. The driver module ipw2200 sometimes crashes the system.
Anyone has similar problems?
Oh, one suggestion, you might wanna try on ndiswrapper. It might gonna have better performance/reliablity. However, I customed the Linux kernel and ndiswrapper is incompatilible with those features I added.

thanks for the reponses. I've been playing around with it and seem to now be getting stable performance. The only problem is that Im getting a considerably weeker connection then i did under windows. ie 2 mbs vs 22. Yeah I think kernel 2.6.10-770 was part of the problem (mainly because thats the point where the wireless stoped working). so right now im using the older kernel. Now time to get back to getting tpctl and tpb and acpi-ibm working (kinda a pain)
. Im thinking that for these things might be a lot easier with a self configured kernel.
So far I haven't had any crashes, and im also using FC3.
I might look into that ndiswrapper, thanks for meantioning it.

I use 802.11g and wep entirely, and I didn't have any trouble under gentoo. Under kubuntu I have trouble with the ipw2200 module crashing after 4 or more hibernate/resume cycles. But thats easily fixed, just somewhat annoying.
