Can I put a T40 or T41 SXGA lcd on a T43 XGA model?

#1 Post by Thomcat » Mon Dec 19, 2011 12:01 pm

Hi All,

I've got a bunch of non-working T40 and T41 SXGA 14" laptops that died due to the GPU ATI solder thing. I was thinking about buying a regular T43 14" working base and swap out the LCD assembly with one of the T40/T41 SXGA LCD assemblies.

Is this possible?

Do I need to get an SXGA T43 model to mate with the T40/41 SXGA lcd assemblies or will any T43 14" model work? Does the T43 have to have a specific Graphics GPU?

Thanks,
Thomas

Even better is if anyone wants to do a swap for a working T43 base. I've basically got two whole T40/T41 laptops with the dead GPU issue so that means I've got two of everything to swap. E.g. one 1400x1050 LCD, one 1024x768 LCD, two dvd-roms, spare CUs, two keyboards, spare ram, etc...

Maybe someone has a spare T43 base and needs other parts to get their machines working. Let me know!

Thanks!
Thomas

The 14.1" T40/T41/T42 XGA and SXGA+ LCDs will all fit in a T43 14.1" machine.
XGA and SXGA+ use the same inverter, but an SXGA+ LCD also needs an SXGA+ LCD-cable.
The T43 machine must have (any) ATI graphics for SXGA+ to work.
T43 with Intel gfx can only use XGA LCDs.
You can swap the complete lid from a T40/1/2 onto a T43 (and v.v.).
You only need to swap out the clearplate at the right bottom of the LCD to match the 'recipient' (but that's only 'cosmetics' and not a must).
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Thank you. Anyone have an ATI-based T43 base they want to trade?

I can confirm that - i'm working, and right now typing on - a R52, in a T43 chassis, and a T41 lid.

The only thing that it doesn't have - is the BT antenna, but since i don't ever use it, it's not a problem for me. Also both clearplates changed to t43 ones :)
ex: T30, TR451, TR453, R51, R52, X40, X60, R61, T400
X200 - P8600 2.66Ghz, 3G, 250G
G50-70 - 3558U 2.4Ghz, 4G, 1T

still looking? I have a T43 motherboard and structure frame/base for sale (not for trade though). From memory it has the ATI GPU with at least 128MB chip on there, 1.86 processor, fan, 1GB RAM, any most everything else could be transferred from your other machine
T42 (type 2373)
T43 (type 2668) x2
T60 (type 2007)
