How to clean out Norton/Symatec?

#1 Post by Greg Gebhardt » Sun Dec 25, 2011 2:50 pm

The very first thing I did was to remove Norton from my new W520 and from the program list it is gone.

BUT, I keep getting reminders for Symatec Software. How can I get rid of it 100%

I use Revo Uninstaller, which you can download from CNET download.com. I have been using it for three or four years on occasion as needed. It is really good for when you have some left over pieces that your windows uninstaller can't get to.

You can also look in "Add/Remove Programs" for anything Synaptic, and uninstall it. I think there are two or three apps and one of them is an update app that is separate from the AV software, IIRC.

If you go to the Symantec website, you will find a remover program which I always run after I remove it via Windows. This seems to work.

Thanks all! After getting your info and doing some Google, it seems their is a folder that holds all this advertising crap. I found it and deleted it. Stuff like this makes my not like Norton as few want this on their computer. Do they nopt understand that people dislike this back door advertising?

Oh well. It seems to be gone. Thankls everyone HAPPY NEW YEAR!
