Which Thinkpad better? T43 or R51? or t60? (screen problem)
Which Thinkpad better? T43 or R51? or t60? (screen problem)
I have now the R51 model
1.6 Banias
512 Ram
40 GB HDD
Intel Extreme 2 Graphics
Is it good to change it (with no paying, I will sell the R51) to T43 with 1gb RAM and ATI graphs?
And second question: I can sell R51 and try to buy t60, but I'm afraid of the screen. In my R51 there is a great screen, it has really great colours. How it's in T60? Is it still good or it's some kind of bussiness screen, which will be worse than R51's.

R51, T43 and T60 all have various screen options. Some great, some mediocre. I don't know what you have right now, but the best screens (15" SXGA+ Flexview) are available on all 3 models and are equivalent as far as image quality and viewing angles go.

The R51 with Intel graphics can only do XGA (both 14.1" and 15").
The R52 with Intel can do XGA (both 14.1" and 15") and only the 15" can also do SXGA+.
The T43 with Intel can only do XGA (both 14.1" and 15").
The T43, R51 and R52 with ATI can do XGA, SXGA+ (both 14.1" and 15") and UXGA (15" only).
The T60 can do anything, with both Intel and ATI.

manfred, from your other thread, I learned that you bought this R51 only a few days ago and that you have very little money. If I were in your shoes, I would just keep using it for at least several months without spending any money on upgrades. I would certainly not upgrade the HDD now because the Thailand floods have caused HDD prices to skyrocket. If you run no more than 3 windows simultaneously, 512MB RAM is tolerable for Windows XP SP3.
Once you have more money, sell this R51 and get a T60.

I would get a 14" XGA T4x machine cheaply with failed motherboard (video problem) and swap the motherboard into that. You then have a very rigid, light and good notebook. T4x with failed motherboards could be had as cheap as 20-30 usd and if you're lucky you have more meory there too and/or bigger hard drive.
