Any way to Install from floppy with T42 without Floppy Drive
Any way to Install from floppy with T42 without Floppy Drive
As everyone knows, T42 don't come with floppy disks anymore.
I currently have a floppy drive on loan, and won't have this again soon.
I have a program that is stored on 25 floppy disks, and I'm wondering if there's anyway I can archive these onto a CD or my hard disk, so that installation is automatic (ie: click on Setup.exe and it automatically installs from CD or my hard drive)?
Specifically, I don't want a solution that requires me to click on 25 different folders to install this from CD or Hard Drive!
Any help would be appreciated!
My computer is T42s 2373-K5H

Many thanks for your very quick reply!
However, copy these into 25 folders (one folder for each floppy),
wouldn't this require me to manually point to 25 different folders during installation ?
I'm hoping that i can just click "setup.exe" and go away to have a cup of coffee, while it installs automatically

The Weissman wrote:If it's anything like WordPerfect for DOS, you could simply burn the contents of all the floppies to a common directory (presumably the root directory) on a CDR (that is, you don't need to make "Disk 1" and "Disk 2" folders, and so on) and run install from the CDR. I'll bet that'll work.

Just curious. I was recently given a USB Floppy Drive I don't use much. Why do "serious" Thinkpad owners need a USB floppy drive? Do they give additional uses that USB Thumbdrives or CD/DVDs do not offer?Leon wrote:USB Floppy Drives are less thab $30US delivered on Ebay. IMHO no serious Thinkpad owner should be without one...
Thanks!

It will make your life easier for some firmware updates. While there is always a way to do these without, IMHO it is not worth the time. Also, a time will come when you, a friend, or your company will give you or need something on a floppy. You can't predict when this will happen, and like insurance, you'll be glad you have it when you need it.
