Near the southbridge failure?

#1 Post by lukee » Wed Jan 04, 2012 1:01 pm

I have been working with my T43p today with quiet heavy performance load. When the computer and hard disk was busy with some software task, I plugged in my flash disk drive and got the well known message: "This device may perform faster" when the computer finished the computing task. I have tried to unplug it and plug it many times then but I did not get the message yet - I can't reproduce the error from that time. Can be this a first sign of SB failure or the computer was busy with my difficult software task and was not able to assign system resources immediately after the flash disk drive was inserted?

If it happened once and not again for several "reproduce error attempts", I'd write it off as a "stuff happens" for now (cause they do).

Agreed. Stuff happens. Gremlins infest ThinkPads on occasion.

Just be mindful of any other symptoms that could be related to a SB failure.

Good luck.
