T 430U has anyone played w one yet?
Read on CNet that a T430u (ThinkPad Ultrabook) is in the very near offing. Didn't know if anyone here was privy to trying one out??
Article said it starts @ $ 849. That's a very appealing price tag.
Thoughts????

Well, according to the publications, this announcement is before CES during which it's going to more fully presented, so a little patience and we'll get there. And the articles say that none of the machines is going to available immediately for sale...
Of course, if an insider talk while under his usual silence protocol that would be welcome. But it hasn't been customary with other releases. We get official descriptions/announcements and spec leaks usually.
What happens now is public exposure of the product and possibly making adjustments, either in marketing, or in the product itself, if the need is discovered and accepted and contingency plans allow. A very late development of the product before it's being rolled unto the market.
As it currently seems, some of us are going to let of some steam off again. But I hope it (really) doesn't build up.

Engaget says:
>>Lenovo's ThinkPad T430u Ultrabook targets the business set with discrete graphics and 1TB in storage, arrives in Q3 for $849<<
Geez... that's lightyears away and it could be changed a bunch of times for better or worse by then.

It's a nice idea... but the keyboard choice is a non-starter.
Lack of DVD drive doesn't help either... though this IS an Ultrabook, there are slim drives out there a la X301. (Not slim enough, though.)
Otherwise it looks interesting.
Though I'd like to see what the aluminum lid is really like- if it's as weak as the MBA or if it's as sturdy as any other ThinkPad.

Just say no to the ThinkBook Pro.

display still sucks... be willing to pay $200 extra for 1440x900 or 1680x1050 IPS display

There's always the Yoga, but that's going to be more expensive.

There are some videos of T430u on youtube. The release version will have island (chiclet) styled keyboard and matte display.
Looks very much like X300/X301 except it has that thinkpad edge styled keyboard in the prototype.

Re: T 430U has anyone played w one yet?
T430u will be released 3rd quarter of 2012. It will be 5-6 month wait.
T430 may appear sooner when Intel releases Ivy Bridge cpu in 2nd quarter 2012.
