IBM Thinpad X61s and Linux

#1 Post by acayci » Thu Jan 05, 2012 12:06 pm

Hello,

I have installed Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.6.64.1 on X61s laptop. The linux kernel version is 2.6.18-274.3.1.0.1.el5 x86_64 GNU/Linux. It has 8 GB installed memory.

In general, I am observing slowness throughout. I really appreciate if any of you had the the similar issue provided that you may have used RedHat. But I am hoping the issues you were facing were similar to mine.

Thank you in advance,
Mustafa

I have not noticed any slowness using RHEL or derivatives but have not tried oracle linux. The only slowness is on startup and shutdown due to all the services that RHEL enables by default. Actual use after startup is responsive.

Have you checked to see if the hard drive is being accessed or the cpu used? The 2.6.18 kernel is rather old and RHEL6 uses the 2.6.32 kernel.
