From B-G To A-B-G

#1 Post by jmt » Mon Apr 11, 2005 1:30 pm

I have both a T42 and T43. The T43 with A B G wireless is considerably stronger than the T42 with A B. Would it be possible to upgrade the T42 to the A B G wireless?

why not, order the abg card from ibm, open your t42, swap the card and you good to go.

Yes, you can order either IBM MiniPCI A/B/G adapter II or Intel 2915ABG. Check out its part number and order from any website or IBM's site. I BM's is based on atheros AR504. I "heard" that has longer range and better performance but Intel might have more compatiblity. Haven't tried them myself yet because I'm still waiting for my machine to arrive

I think yes. There is no reason why it cannot. T41P wireless is also implemented as a minPCI (same as T42 and T43). I did triy on T41 and so it should work for T41p as well.

If I remember correctly, for T41 the miniPCI slot is not accessible from the back of the machine and you have to remove the keyboard first. It's not hard, but you might want to check the IBM Hardware Maintenance guide for T41/T41p. There will be a step-by-step instruction on how to that. (Sorry, but I did this only once and it was over 8-9 months ago  )

2373GEU has IBM a/b/g, 2373GGU has Intel b.
