IBM 4820-5GN Touch LCD Screen
Im trying to get the touch screen to work but not sure what to do.
Im using Windows XP Professional and or Windows XP Tablet Edition on my IBM ThinkPad X60, witch have hooked up by the VGA. On the back of the LCD I have AC power, VGA, and a port that says "4" under it. Im getting ready for the Microsoft Windows 8 that is all touchscreen. Im going to be using my IBM ThinkCentre A50p with this LCD with windows 8.

Re: IBM 4820-5GN Touch LCD Screen
My LCD came with this cable, not the same other end, but has the pink end in this picture, only mine is Green witch this end is not pluged into the monitor but plugs into maybe the computer. But looking for a USB adapter to plug this into my IBM ThinkCentre A50p for the Touch Screen function. The LCD display the picture fine but no Touch right now.

Re: IBM 4820-5GN Touch LCD Screen
Ah, yeah, the SurePOS screens.
These are fun.
Assuming that your screen is anything like mine, the cable that you posted provides both USB and power. The bottom half is USB, the top half (the bit nearest the latch) is power. There is a standard USB cable that IBM offers (I don't remember the FRU/Part #), but good luck getting it -- I've been trying for ages, and *nobody* has it.
So my solution was a bit of a hack. I took a female -> male USB extension cord, and coerced the female end to fit the USB portion of the SurePOS cable. It works fine.
If you want to do the same 1) make sure you get the right end, or you might short out the computer that you plug the cable in to 2) don't blame me if you break anything.
Software-wise, support is easy, as it's just a standard Elan touchscreen. The hardware is a bit... uh... quirky though: it gets easily confused by multi-touches, and will sometimes mis-calibrate itself such that 0,0 is far away from the top left. The good news is that if you touch and drag into the top left it will usually figure out what's what. That may just be my screen though. Hopefully you have a less "creative" model.

Re: IBM 4820-5GN Touch LCD Screen
I checked my cable and did notice the USB "Bottom" and power on top, I have a cheapy China USB extened cable witch I will mod and not ruin the OEM IBM cable to fit on.
I took out the Metal grove around the China USB cable and widen the metal and it connects to the IBM cable perfect without any cutting to any of the cables. I can post an image if anyone wants me too.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I did. The original cable is still in tact, I just slid the female part of the extension over the bottom half of the SurePOS plug.ThinkPad560X wrote:I checked my cable and did notice the USB "Bottom" and power on top, I have a cheapy China USB extened cable witch I will mod and not ruin the OEM IBM cable to fit on.
