T410S - Fuzzy VGA output

#1 Post by hedgeman » Tue Jan 10, 2012 4:27 am

Hi There,

I have a T410S with i5-580M + Switchable NVIDIA 3100M running Windows 7 64 connected directly (no docking) to two new 24” Dell U2412m monitors. The primary monitor is connected using displayport and the second one using VGA. As you would expect the displayport image quality is perfect, but the VGA quality is rather poor with fuzzy letters and a slight amount of ghosting.

I tested the monitor and the VGA cable by connecting the "VGA" monitor to the T410S using cheap USB to VGA adapter. Using the USB to VGA adapter, the image clarity on the "VGA" monitor was surprisingly pretty much on par with the displayport monitor – so the cable and the monitor are fine.

As a final test, I changed the BIOS’s display setting from Switchable to Integrated with and the “Intel” VGA feed has the same fuzzyness and ghosting problems as NVIDIA VGA feed.

Is there a problem with my T410S? Any ideas?

Thank you,

Sounds like the clock cycles aren't in sync. You'll likely fail this test: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/clock_phase.php

Plug it in, and look for an auto-sync or auto-set on the monitor.
