#1 Post by ddpatil » Tue Jan 17, 2012 11:41 pm

I Purchase IBM ThinkPad R61i 8947 A22 few years back. Currently My laptop is running with Windows XP OS (32 bit)& having 4GB RAM.

I would like to upgarde the OS from Windows XP to Windows 7 64 bits.

Please let me know whether my laptop (R61i 8947 A22) is compatible to Install 64 bit architecture OS?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, your ThinkPad will support a 64-bit OS.

BIOS should really have no bearing on anything in that respect - your CPU is a Core 2 Duo (albeit a fairly weak one) and supports 64-bit architecture.

BTW, if you ever run into another one of those machines, I want to buy it. Seriously.

Happy upgrading.

Hey Thanks for your help. I able to install Windows 7 64 bit version Yesterday. Extremely fast running.

This laptop I am using for R&D purpose. This is very good for development. Also it generate low heat.

I am happy with this model. Only one thing I am not satisfied is Bettery life. I would like to replace but it cost more.

Hello!

Thinkpads are the best for developing, i guess.

I know someone who works at the laboratory uses high frequency and every laptop except thinkpad didn't work properly during experiment, he said.

If you are looking for battery, why don't you use replacement batteries? You'll get them for around $20 on ebay and it works just great for it's price.
