X220 Tablet Power supply managment

#1 Post by fraegor » Thu Jan 19, 2012 4:38 am

Hi all,

I have a Thinkpad X220 tablet.

When I shut down it, the laptop activate the hybernate mode.

So, after 3 days, the battery is empty (without starting laptop).

I would to know how i can desactivate this function (to switch in hybernate mode) when it stop the laptop.

When i click to stop the laptop, i would like that everything was turn off (to keep battery).

thanks

Actually, this would be called sleep mode. Sleep mode will only provide power to the RAM, which will indeed drain battery life.

Hibernate mode is what you are wanting it to do. Hibernation unloads everything from the RAM onto a file on the hard drive, and then completely powers off the machine. The data in the hibernate file is then reloaded back to the RAM when you boot it back up.

Are you using Windows? How are you shutting it down? There are 3 different behaviors you can set in the advanced power options for shutdown: 1. The Shutdown button on the start menu 2. The power button on your tablet 3. When you close the lid to the tablet.

This guide explains what each option does in the advanced power options: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... mst_en.pdf
FRENCH VERSION: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... mst_fr.pdf

Here is how the user manual describes it:

Power-saving modes
There are several modes that you can use at any time to conserve power. This section introduces each
mode and gives tips on the effective use of the battery power.
Introducing the power-saving modes
• Screen blank. The computer display requires considerable battery power. To turn off power to the
display, do as follows:
1. Press Fn+F3. A panel for selecting a power plan (in Windows XP, power scheme) appears.
Chapter 2. Using your computer 592. Select Power off display (keep current power plan) (in Windows XP, keep current power scheme).
Notes: You can also turn off the computer display as follows:
1. Press Fn+F3. A panel for selecting a power plan (in Windows XP, power scheme) appears.
2. Select Fn+F3 Settings.
3. Select Power off display.
4. Click OK. The next time you press Fn+F3, you can turn off the computer display.
• Sleep (standby in Windows XP). In sleep (standby) mode, your work is saved to memory, and then the
solid state drive or the hard disk drive and the computer display are turned off. When your computer
wakes up, your work is restored within seconds.
To put your computer into sleep (standby) mode, press Fn+F4. To return from sleep (standby) mode,
press the Fn key.
• Hibernation. By using this mode, you can turn off your computer completely without saving files or
exiting from any applications that are running. When you enter hibernation, all open applications, folders,
and files are saved to the hard disk, and then the computer turns off. To enter hibernation, press Fn+F12.
To resume your session, press the power button for no more than 4 seconds

Good luck!

Thanks for your answer.

My problem is not solved.

When I shutdown laptop with the Shutdown button on the start menu, the laptop switch off.
After that, when i close the lid to the tablet; the 2 lights on the left on the lid (power and moon) still light... So they drain battery ...

Because the moon LED is on, it is clear that you are in the sleep mode. The sleep mode does consume the energy.

As the previous commet, if you are using windows 7, you should check the "Power Options". There is a setting "what the power bottons do" which allows you to choose between "shutdown", "hibernate" or "sleep" when you press the power botton.
