T410 - Bluetooth Mouse Problem

#1 Post by nikki605 » Thu Jan 19, 2012 12:11 pm

After getting my T410 (2516-CTO) in 2010, I bought a Microsoft bluetooth mouse 5000. It works fine 80-90% of the time. But every once in a while, it will stop responding. Most of the time, cycling the power switch on the bottom of the mouse will bring it back. On rare occasion, I will have to reboot the T410.

I am running Win7 Pro x-64 SP1 (see the link in my sig for the full specs) with all current MS updates. I am also up to date with all lenovo System Updates. The bluetooth driver is current - ver 6.2.1.3200

The mouse is within a foot of the laptop. Yes, I have changed the batteries. AAA batteries don't last long in this mouse. Recently, I switched from standard Duracell to Energizer Ultimate Lithium but that didn't help the problem.

Several months ago, I deleted the device in Win7 and re-installed it. No help.

Has anyone else experienced this? How do I troubleshoot a wireless bluetooth problem? How do I figure out if the problem is with the mouse or with the bluetooth radio in the laptop? I don't have another mouse to swap with (that would be too easy). Is this model mouse notoriously flaky? Are there know issues with the bluetooth radios in these laptops?

Any ideas will be appreciated. :)
Gary A.

I had this same problem with my T410. It seemed to start right after an update of the Bluetooth drivers. I cannot remember if it was a Lenovo update or if it was a Windows update, but it all of a sudden started timing out on me all the time. I went to the properties of the bluetooth adapter on device manager, and did a rollback to the previous driver. Everything is back to working again. The first step in troubleshooting is to rule out a driver issue. If rollback does not work, force install the driver from the prefetch directory.

Thanks. :) What driver version are you using?

Same mouse, except on both a T400/W520. It would occasionally fail to link up with the computer, and toggling the mouse and bluetooth (Fn+F5) would do the trick. It was a lot more prevalent on my T400 than the W520. Not sure why.

I got the Microsoft bluetooth 5000 mouse about 3 years ago and it did the same kind of thing. It started happening more often and I quit using it long ago. I now have a Sony VGP-BMS15, and so far it has the best one yet. I have also tried the Inland bluetooth mouse. I have yet to try the logitech m470 or the Lenovo bluetooth mice.
