Discrete graphics card not working and/or showing up
Discrete graphics card not working and/or showing up
T400 w/ discrete graphics, windows 7. Device manager only shows Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset under display adapters. Went into bios, tried changing it to discrete only and computer would not even boot up. So then I unplugged my cmos battery to reset and now it is back to working. However, I want to enable my graphics card!
Now I should have the following graphics card available: SBB AMD M82XT HYBRID 256MB. At least that is what I paid for there to be, however I have never checked that it was actually ever available.

Try right clicking on the battery icon.

I tried right clicking on high performance but when I go back to check it is always still on energy saving
Re: Discrete graphics card not working and/or showing up
I'm assuming your using Win7 64 bit. If not this won't work. Go to http://www.mediafire.com/?0w6vt9t1s163ssy and download the Optimus Test tools. Start both tools and then open the NVIDIA control panel. Select the 3D test. If Optimus us working the tools will tell you so.
If you're using a 32 bit OS you can download the 32 bit version of the tools here: http://www.pcwelt.de/downloads/Diagnose ... 31987.html and then follow the same procedure
If you are trying to set Optimus as the default video process, you need to set the BIOS for discrete graphics and most importantly uncheck the third choice about automatic switching because Win7 will defeat your choice if auto-detection is enabled.
The tools will detect Optimus enabled applications like Photoshop.

Actually I think he is using ATI graphics for this model.mixz1 wrote:I'm assuming your using Win7 64 bit. If not this won't work. What I would do is get my data off the hard drive and then let it do a factory restore. It takes a lot less time than uninstalling and reinstalling different versions of drivers all day. If it still does not work after that, then I'd say you have a hardware problem.

Right click on the battery icon and LEFT click on high-performancesgtroian wrote:I tried right clicking on high performance but when I go back to check it is always still on energy saving
Re: Discrete graphics card not working and/or showing up
I did in fact know enough to left click on high performance. Like I said earlier in the post, if I go into device manager, the ATI card is not showing up, so I'm guessing its either a hardware problem or my drivers are messed up. I was trying to see if anyone has run across the problem of the device manager not even showing the separate graphics card.
Re: Discrete graphics card not working and/or showing up
It does not show up in the device manager until it is enabled in power manager. Check the BIOS to be sure it is set to allow the OS to set display properties.
