W7X0 series display
W7X0 series display
Which W7X0 series have RGB Led WUXGA displays, and which are most reliable?
I only am interested in the single panel models.
Thanks

Re: W7X0 series display
both the W700 and W701 WUXGA panel is RGB LED.
Current ThinkPad: T430u, T430s, X1 Carbon, X1, X230t, X220t, X230, X220, X201t, W520, W701ds, T500, T420 and many more
Re: W7X0 series display
If I remember correctly, the W700 panel is substantially brighter than the W701.
Both should be quite good, however.

So the W700 uses a different display?AMATX wrote:If I remember correctly, the W700 panel is substantially brighter than the W701.

Also, which of the models came with either a 3700M or 3800M GPU? I know some models came with a lesser GPU.
Do you feel these models are better than HP's 8740 in terms of performance and reliability? Given Thinkpad reliability, do you feel these models are better than the current generation of 17 inch laptops? (e.g. HP, Asus, Dell)
My old A21p has lasted forever, put out to pasture only because of a dim display. Using a more recent Thinkpad since then.
Are we all crazy to be infatuated with Thinkpads?
Thanks

I don't remember details; you'll have to poke around/search it out.
Re: W7X0 series display
my W701ds came with 3800m GPU, whether the HP is better depends on the cost, but i think they are pretty much the same in terms of overall quality.
The ds models secondary screen quality is really crap, and i wouldn't use it read anything as the text will appear washed out.

Truthfully, the secondary screen was never an attractant for me.lead_org wrote:my W701ds came with 3800m GPU, whether the HP is better depends on the cost, but i think they are pretty much the same in terms of overall quality.

The 3800M is, however.
Do you think that the Thinkpad and the Elite are better and more reliable than the current crop of 17 inch laptops?
I realize, of course, that the IBM has additional, graphics oriented features.
There's some odd appeal in having Thinkpads of different sizes.
Thanks
Re: W7X0 series display
well the GPU is removable MXM solution, so you can upgrade if needed.
Well most current crop of 17 inch laptops are gaming orientated.
But the M6600 with the ATI graphics card and the dock is able to support up to 5 displays using eyefinity technology, which maybe attractive to some people (including myself).

The W700 has an upgradeable MXM? I have an HP notebook that is MXM, but the BIOS doesn't permit an upgrade.lead_org wrote:well the GPU is removable MXM solution, so you can upgrade if needed. ..

The M6000 is a Dell Precision? Those are more sturdily built than the consumer oriented line, I take it?
Re: W7X0 series display
only W701 WUXGA is RGB LED
W700 uses CCFL-backlit screen

Thanks for the information.chairsky wrote:only W701 WUXGA is RGB LED

The W701's display is a bit better, I take it?
Re: W7X0 series display
i got a W700ds recently in addition to mine W701ds, the W700ds's WUXGA is a CCFL unit.

A couple of days ago I almost bought a 17" HP with a Dream Color IPS LED-lit LCD...taichi wrote:

The machine is downright stunning, and the price wasn't bad at all. Quite the contrary.
I just decided - upon seeing it - that I couldn't deal with the size of it. It's a monster.
Unless one was hellbent on getting a Mac for reasons of their own, within 17" notebook range HP leaves everything else in dust when it comes to display quality, and that includes W700/701. While it would take some getting used to, the Dream Color is likely one of the most impressive - if not *the* most impressive - LCDs I've ever seen on a laptop.
I guess my next stop will be a 15" version of the same machine, but that's beyond the scope of this thread...
