T500 2241-A87 Laptop

#1 Post by Tony1100 » Sun Jan 22, 2012 8:32 pm

To complement my Lenovo T500, I have just bought a genuine new Thinkpad Advanced Dock 250310U from the states because none are available at present in the U.K.

The 250310U works as expected with my T500 and I wish to install a sata drive in the 250310U. Can anyone offer some advice please?

The enclosed paperwork I have indicates I need a Thinkpad sata hard drive bay adapter III caddy to hold the disk drive and then install the caddy in the right side of the 250310U. I think I can get one from amazon u.k / usa if this is correct? Some caddies are suspect on ebay?

Finally, on Lenovo's forum someone mentioned thinkpad sata adapter P/N 26R9247 FRU 26R9246 would be ok instead? but that's like looking for hens teeth!

Thanks for any help or advice you can help with and great to see you still have a great site from the 'old' ibm thinkpad days!

Is the paperwork you have with the computer or the dock? The T500 uses a SATA interface for the ultrabay. If I remember right. the 2503 dock uses an a parallel ATA interface between the bay and the drive, so you would use something like the 26R9246 you mention. 26R9246 is NOT the adapter you would use in the T500 ultrabay. In the machine's ultrabay, you would use the "Thinkpad sata hard drive bay adapter III". This has a SATA interface, so it would not work in the dock. The 26R9246 has a PATA->SATA bridge built into it.
