T61 14.1 SXGA+ near mint in original box, etc., - SOLD

#1 Post by Edward Mendelson » Mon Jan 23, 2012 10:16 am

I know the price is high, but this is really in superb condition, and there's a "make an offer" box:

EDIT: Sold at Buy It Now price in less than one day.

Very pricey, but I did a serial lookup to see if this could have the an updated nVidia chip (08/08 or newer), and found it's an Intel based unit, which aren't as powerful, but are very reliable, and it also has Penryn support. The date code is most likely an 08/03, which is a moot point since it doesn't have nVidia.

If someone wants a 4:3 in good condition with Penryn support and Intel graphics, I'd recommend grabbing it.

I'll revise the listing to specify that it's got an Intel GPU. As I remember, it was the most powerful non-nVidia model I could buy at the time - and that worked out well. You're right - it is an 08/03 build. How did you know???

TuuS did a warranty lookup with the serial number shown for your system. There it is stated that the three years warranty expired on 2011-03-13, thus it must have been built three years earlier, which happens to be 08/03.

BTW, the SXGA+ display resolution is 1400x1050 (not 1280x1024). Also, i think it is a worthy price for that machine, and if i wouldn't already have my 8895-WFJ i would feel tempted to buy it. ;)

Yes, the warranty lookup would show the month it was built unless the unit spent some shelf time and a new warranty date was added, but the Penryn cpu wasn't availale until January, and the boards that run a penryn weren't available until febuary, so it wasn't likely this one spent time on a shelf.

Considering the nVidia chips from that era were very unreliable, your definitely lucky you didn't get one, and I think considering the condition and original supplies, your price is fair, plus it's not that common to see sxga screens on an intel unit.

It was a CTO model - meaning that I ordered that special combination of parts - it wasn't waiting around on a shelf. I wanted to get the best available choices for the parts that couldn't easily be upgraded like the CPU and screen (I didn't need the nVidia graphics) but with minimal HDD and RAM because I upgraded those as soon as I got the machine. It still has the original CD/RW/DVD - I already had a separate DVD writer, and didn't need to buy a second one, since I used it only to make restore disks.
