Help with transfering R51 components to T43

#1 Post by noblegas » Mon Jan 23, 2012 10:07 pm

I want to transfer all of the internal components of my R51 laptop(i.e., memory, motherboard, cpu, all essential components) to my would be empty T43 thinkpad laptop, where all of the internal components of my T43(i.e., memory, motherboard, cpu, all essential components) would be removed.IF this transfer and installation is successful, would my T43 thinkpad, now containing all of the internal components from my R51 laptop function like a R51 thinkpad laptop?

What exactly are you trying to accomplish, and why?

Technically yes, except the R51 fan will not fit inside the T43 chassis, and if the R51 has Firewire, that will not fit in the T43 chassis either, unless the T43 is 15" (and then it needs to be modified...)

Long story short, I accidentally fried my motherboard from my T43 laptop when I plugged a charger whose voltage settings were higher than the voltage settings on my T43 thinkpad laptop specs. I have an R51 laptop where all the internal components are functioning properly but the outer "shell" of the R51 laptop is so damaged that its completely nonfunctioning. Since the outer shell of my T43 thinkpad laptop isn't damaged and since the internal components of my R51 thinkpad laptop work just fine, I thought , 'why not combined them both together and thus save me money by not buying a new laptop'

What is the most effective method that you recommend for accomplishing this task? Is the R51 fan absolutely necessary?

Great. Never removed a motherboard , ram or cpu from a laptop, but I have from a desktop before. What tools do I need to assist me? What other components do I need to removed from my R51 besides the cpu, ram , hdd and motherboard?

About fan - T42p long fan is much more quieter that original T43/T43p long fan.
Current: T420
Previous: T400, T43p Flexview, T40, R52, T43p 14"
My first ThinkPad was 570

# 1 Phillips screwdriver is all you need.

Now...how about 7-character model numbers for both machines, there's a reason I'm asking this...
