Replacment of T410s LCD

#1 Post by carpevita » Wed Jan 25, 2012 8:30 pm

Just got off the phone with Lenovo repair depot. They won't cover the replacement of my LCD with "pressure caused white spots". They want 750 bucks. Anyone know where I can buy a replacement LCD? Been searching the web... Nothing. Is it hard to replace on my own?.. Thanks Dan

eBay. A search for "Thinkpad T410 LCD" produced 83 matches, should be able to find a reputable dealer in there to order one from.

Oh, missed the last part - here is a video of the screen replacement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AURrh6Z3968. Lenovo also has videos at their support site that may help and the diagrams and instructions in the hardware maintenance manual for your model should give the step by step as well.

Thanks for the info... Unfortunately the video is for the 410 not the 410s. In the video the narrator says the procedure is different for the s version.. Also, the listings in ebay located in China and Malasia...makes me a little nervous..This isnt gonna be as easy as I hoped.. Dan

Did you send it for repair or just call? I always suggest that people take the machine to a Premier Dealer with screen problems that are questionable about whether they are covered by warranty. (subjective decision) It is easier to discuss a screen that you are both looking at. Tell the dealer you do not want to do the repair if it is not covered. He gets paid if he decides it is covered, but doesn't if it is not covered. If you ask a guy at the depot, he is paid a salary and if it is covered, it's more work for him.

Went to the Dealer first. They didnt want to mess with it. Spoke with a "supervisor" from the depot. She said Four(right!) techs looked at the screen and said pressure damage. Lenovo sells the LCD screen for 420 bucks. Might try to replace it myself.. How hard is that job? Dan

I have never changed a panel on this model, but it looks easier than most others. The only thing hard is the price. (panels are expensive) T410s LCD panel is not the same part as T410 LCD. You are unlikely to find one for much under $300. On other, more common models, I would suggest parting it out and buying a replacement, but the parts are hard to sell.
