IBM Thinkpad French Unit

#1 Post by redsi » Tue Jun 15, 2004 1:08 pm

Hello!
Anyone knows the difference between a Freanch Keyboard and English Keyboard?

I might got a great deal in IBM Thinkpad but the unit is in French OS & Keyboard, I have my OS which should be no problem, but how about the keyboard?

Pls help me out , I need quick info here :) Do u know if I just replace the keyboard part, will that work?

You can easily replace the keyboard. The letters on the English keyboard are in different order: qwertyuiop etc. on the French keyboard: azertyuiop etc.

Check out this website: http://www.sussex.ac.uk/USCS/Facilities ... french.pdf

...or in html.

Great!

Does it mean once I replace the keyboard and install English Windows OS, the keyaord will recognize the correct key stroke that I type in?

I guess so. But if not, just change the default keyboard layout in XP.

What you need to do is install the "English/USA" keyboard option or wherever you're from in order to recognise the default configuration that you're used to.

Using the keyboard in its default setting is workable, but there's a few quirks - when you want to use the apostrophe key it puts in a comma instead, stuff like that. Switch it over to English USA and it's all good.

i see...as long as I install the English (United States) in Text Services and Input Languages of Windows XP, my keyboard will act like a "Normal Keyboard"
