Flaky Broadband? Check your Router Firmware!

#1 Post by poshgeordie » Thu Jan 26, 2012 3:36 pm

Over the last month our broadband has become very "flaky" with changing and generally slow speeds, and increasingly more dropouts.

Events came to a head today when the router (Netgear DG834 V2) ended up constantly recycling to try and sync to the broadband signal.

A quick phone call to my ISP - our area has just been upgraded with fibre cabling and we're now receiving much faster broadband, and the router firmware was so out of date that it couldn't handle the faster speeds.

A quick firmware update later and everything's back to normal, well actually twice as normal!

Moral: if your broadband has become flaky maybe the router firmware needs updating.
