T61 black scren

#1 Post by wampir » Mon Jan 30, 2012 12:29 pm

Hello :)

I flashed bios in my T61 14" bios to ver. 2.29-1.08 (without CTRL-FN swap) from this site http://forum.notebookreview.com/6501443-post75.html. I checked with ThrottleStop utility that dual-IDA works in my T300. Afetr replacing my T7300 with T8300 my T61 is not working. I press power button, HD is spinning but lcd is black also i hear no beeping. When I put old T7300 back everything is working. What's wrong?

Is it possible that this new T8300 is dead?

You said it: dead T8300.
Return it for a refund and stick with your T7300, it's powerful enough!

Well i'm not sure if it is really dead. Is there any beep code that confirm the cpu death?

Unless you didn't have the chip installed properly, it's dead, and since I believe beep codes require a working cpu, you won't have one to tell you the cpu isn't working.

Also be careful about buying CPU's from places like ebay. I've seen where they come from, and if you want me to explain it to you in great detail, I'll be glad to, but suffice it to say that most come from part stripping factories in Asia that buy the most beatup, smashed, and destroyed laptops you can imagine. Some even look like they have been on fire. They then use child labor to strip them and box the parts, leaving it upto you to figure out if they work or not. Its far cheaper to ship a part twice every now n then, then it is to actually test the parts.

If you want a CPU that's been fully tested for a min of 2days, then let me know, I have some T8300, and T9300 or if you want to stick with a Meron, I have T7700 too.

If your board dies not support penryn cpu, (like t8300), it will quickly flash "thermal error" and turn off

or you press ESC and it keeps on booting.

but yes, the CPU is bad in the OP's case.
