#1 Post by woser » Sun Feb 05, 2012 4:38 am

Hi,

I'm looking for the information about motherboards in thinkpad t60p widescreen was the best, I read somewhere in the internet that some of them has a support to 4GB of memory but some only 3, secondly I have a question about expresscard in which version it is supported by the thinkpad, because I bought new expresscard controller to usb 3.0 and I have a transfer which is a little bit grower than Usb 2.0 in other notebooks ( for example samsung r509) i have transfer almost 2x fastest

All of the T60/p motherboards support only 3GB memory, none of them support 4GB (you can use 2x2GB but OS only sees exactly 3GB.

so why it is this information on the Lenovo website:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail. ... MIGR-62722
....PC2-5300 Non-Parity (NP) Double Data Rate Two (DDR2) Technology
The use of 667 MHz SO DIMM memory is recommended for this system.
256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB, or 2GB memory
Supports up to 4GB maximum memory
Note: Only 64-bit operating systems support more than 3GB of system memory (RAM). Intel Chipsets 945GM and 945PM do not support more than 3GB system memory (RAM), even when a 64-bit operating system is installed.
Recommended for memory expansion are 2 GB PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM 533 MHz SO DIMM or 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667 MHz SO DIMM.

Because it supports it, meaning system boots up and works but it still recognizes only 3GB.

And it also says this:
Note: Only 64-bit operating systems support more than 3GB of system memory (RAM). Intel Chipsets 945GM and 945PM do not support more than 3GB system memory (RAM), even when a 64-bit operating system is installed.

The solution would be a T61/T61p motherboard, which will support 8GB of ram.
