W701 Crashed Bios!!

#1 Post by oceanbrave » Mon Feb 06, 2012 12:34 pm

ThinkVantage attempted to update the BIOS and crashed so of course the system will no longer boot.

Had several suggestions so far from contacting Lenovo service (which I have), to JTAG programming, flash chip replacement but not a solution from anyone who has actually been there and fixed the problem.

Seems people with this same issue are stuck or at least their forum threads end there, of course plan A is to have Lenvo support replace the MB, but just this doesn't happen is there anyone who knows of a plan B?

Any info much appreciated!

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry to hear of your trouble.

If there is warranty I would make the call. There isn't any reason your W701 will not be repaired.

Credit to Lenovo service they replaced the MB and all is back to normal, however it has been pointed out to me that they do not normally cover this.

Have to say the risk of updating the BIOS is too great!!

Did you try reflashing the BIOS from the downloadable bootable BIOS upgrade CD images ?

Happy to hear you are back ThinkPadding.

Good to know that a under warranty ThinkPad's motherboard replacement after BIOS update failue is not covered under the warranty.

For me that overrides any incentive for updating your BIOS.
