Get notifications for new topics only

I would like to subscribe to a few forums but only receive email notifications for new topics/threads. Then I can subscribe to particular topics/threads when I want to receive notifications for new replies/posts.

But it seems like the only way to be notified of new topics in a forum is to also be notified of all replies within all topics of that forum.

Is there a way to receive only New Topic notifications for a particular forum?
