Can I copy the OS install files from R&R partition?

#1 Post by pjcampbell » Tue Feb 14, 2012 12:27 pm

Hello,

Computer is a T60.

I got the malware where it deletes all of your icons (XP Recovery or something)

I'd like to do a reinstall of the OS on a NEW hard drive (SSD) (Lenovo User XP EULA is my OS)

Could someone point me to how I can most easily get my XP OS install files from the recovery partition, onto a USB drive and boot from the USB drive so that I can re-install on a new hard drive? I am sure there is a way to access that partition since it's FAT32, but I just can't quite figure out how!

I believe there is actually a program to create install disks but I've heard that it requires a CD and a DVD. I really don't need the whole R&R partition, but do need/want the OS install files.

Hopefully this makes sense. If there is an Lenovo/ThinkVantage aplication I should be running to create a copy of my install files, could you point me to the location of it, since as I mentioned, all of my icons have been deleted.

Going to answer my own question I think. I found this file, installed it (turned out I didn't have R&R app installed).

Directory of C:\SWTOOLS\APPS\rnr

07/14/2006 04:31 PM 89,584,977 tvtrnr31.exe
1 File(s) 89,584,977 bytes

Trying to create recovery disks now.

EDIT: v3 won't do USB drives. Downloading 4 here.
