Cannot record streaming audio

I have a T520 with conexant 20672 smart audio card. I cannot record streaming audio at all. Had a T41 and T60 with no issues recording streaming audio.

Using Audacity. Read through some help files there and a listing for recording streaming audio is blocked on thinkpads (deep in code). Got a Behringer UFO202 external audio card (USB connect). Was able to record streaming audio, but it has a high pitch hum (feedback) in the recording. Can record from external devices (CD player) with clear recording (no hum). I believe it is feedback due to running a ground wire from the external hard drive to laptop case ground. The feedback hum is almost completely diminished, but not completely.

Need help!!!
