T43 Wireless Options

#1 Post by rickslate » Thu Apr 14, 2005 12:03 am

What's the difference between:

: 11a/b/g wireless4, Mini PCI, Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG, 82533 chipset

and...

: 11a/b/g wireless4, IBM 11a/b/g Mini PCI Adapter II, Atheros AR5004X chipset

It looks like IBM has all the T43s with both wireless options. Which one should I select?

Both are good. There seems to be a moderate bias towards the Atheros chip set on this board. I, for one, have had very good luck with it.

I think the Antheros might have a little longer range...but not by much. Of course if you go with Intel, it will be branded "Centrino." They're pretty much the same as far as I'm concerned.

You won't believe this... I just called up IBM and here are the prices for the same exact T43 system...

2668-97U (IBM Wireless) : $2,929
2668-92U (Intel Wireless) : $2,749

 Pretty much the same technology? I think I know which one I'm buying.
