Re: New BIOS embedded conroller 1.06a woes

Hi I have bit of a problem with my Thinkpad T23 (2647).

I have increased the RAM from the 256mb to 1gb (switching from IBM branded ram to non-IBM branded ram)
...And I have installed Windows 7 x86

I have upgraded the Bios to version 1.2 using the windows launched non-diskette exe
And the OS boots and runs (apparently happily)
However when trying to update the embedded controller program to version 1.06a (which is compatible and required), I have hit a wall.
I have no diskette drive btw.

Running the non-diskette version from windows gives me the BSOD. With the error *DOSBOOT.SYS*. an attempt was made to write to read only area of memory :(
I have tried waiting for windows to load fully before attempting this :(
I have tried this from safe mode :(
And from booted command prompt :(
...both of which fail with some error about (writing 2 files to somewhere). But it is an error not a success report.
Have made a bootable usb drive with access to the diskette version of the ECP. When running this, an attempt is made to extract the contents of the exe to a floppy A: drive (which, as aforementioned, I don't have). It fails :(

Basically I am asking for any advice on how to run the ECP 1.06a update successfully, given my circumstances.

Many thanks.

Ptol

Re: New BIOS version for T23

W7 should not even be installed on a T23, it would be slower than molasses! :BAAAD!:
Stick with Windows XP or rather FLP.
But that is only one problem.
The BIOS/ECP Windows updates run under XP or older.
You could try it in W7 compatibility mode, but I doubt it will work.
Buy a T23 floppy drive on eBay, about £5.- or borrow one from someone else.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
