Warranty for X220T in Denmark

#1 Post by jacobtc » Wed Feb 22, 2012 6:49 am

Hi, my current warranty plan for my X220T is a 1 year carry-in warranty, and therefor I want to upgrade to a three-year on-site warranty instead, however I live in Denmark, and have trouble figuring it out, also when looking at the upgrade plan on the german site, the price is 205,75 EUR, however the UK price is 159,66 EUR, so there is a noticeable difference in price as well, however the warranty covers more than just the country right? So if I buy it from UK (if possible) the warranty would still work in Denmark, right?

Regards
Jacob

I purchased a ThinkPad warranty extension in the US for a fellow forum member in Indonesia. The cost was much less in the US for the same coverage worldwide. Reading forum posts here will reveal though that not all ThinkPad service is the same in all countries so of course your mileage may vary. I think you are on the right track.

@ Jacob:

Welcome to the forum!

As to your planned warranty upgrade, I agree that this is a good idea, but I strongly urge you to check for yourself that the warranty extension you end up purchasing IS valid in Denmark, regardless of where you order it from. Beware that the whole warranty-extension process at IBM/Lenovo (in my long experience) is often super-confusing; if you ask four different Lenovo employees about available warranty options (and coverage etc.), you may very well end up with four different answers (!?!). My advice: Make sure for YOURSELF that you order the right warranty extension (not the least since the warranty can only be extended one time); study all the fine print, and equally important try get a confirmation in writing from a Lenovo employee that the warranty extension you order IS valid in Denmark. Also notice that it has often been possible to upgrade/extend the warranty to five (5) years in the USA, while only four (4) years in Europe. The warranty period is always counted from when you initially purchased the laptop, so if you bought a, say, X220T with a three-year warranty, and if you then subsequently extend the warranty to four years, the total warranty coverage will still be four years... so the extension is only one year.

The reasons for these recommendations is in part owing to my very sad expereince with warranty on ThinkPad's in Denmark, as described in the (lengthy) thread IBM/Denmark deny to honor warranty confirmed by IBM-Support.

I will surely be checking up on the warranty with Lenovo here in Denmark before buying it, however they will probably recommend that I buy it from them though...
