IBM T43 Needs a Motherboard
IBM T43 Needs a Motherboard
Good afternoon!
Have a oldish t43. Has video card issues - corrupt/old/something, but unfixable.....So want to replace the motherboard. But how do I know what motherboard to order off of a site, such as ebay? I could find every piece of tech info on ibm site except what motherboard my sys is - fyi, t43, 2686dju, 1.86Ghz Pentium (R)M, ATI Radeon 300, 512 DDR (200 pin I think) - PC4200 though. Checked msn32 (system stats too) Anyway, how can I find what motherboard I need to replace my defunct one? Can someone guide me?
Thanks much.

Welcome to the forum preetcher!
Pretty much any T43 or R52 motherboard with the ATI Radeon X300 graphics will fit and work just fine in your T43. Just don't get one with Intel graphics as it won't drive your SXGA+ display.

Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

For suitable part numbers (P/N) or FRU, see my website's motherboard list: http://theboardroom.info/ibm_list.htm#T43 and http://theboardroom.info/ibm_list.htm#R52
Any ATI mobo will do, but not the Intel graphics.
Unfortunately The Board Room has no T43/R52 ATI mobo stock.

Hold your horses for one second, gents...
That's a 15" SXGA+ and a board from an Intel-powered R52 will most certainly work...it wouldn't if it were a 14" unit...
ThinkPad T43 (2686-DJU)
P M 750(1.8GHz), 512MB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HD, 15in 1400x1050 LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon X300, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11bg wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

Re: IBM T43 Needs a Motherboard
George is right (Thanks!), R52 Intel mobos work on 15" SXGA+.
I was too lazy to look up Preetcher's T43 specs.
If you can accept Intel graphics, I have just the motherboard for you!
PM me if interested.

Re: IBM T43 Needs a Motherboard
Evening sirs,
Thank you for the replies. Sorry for the delay-life happens fast and is all consuming.....
So a R52 mboard will work also, excellent. Did not quite understand the comment about the intel graphics - why would that not power the sxga+? So stick with the Radeon 300? And the celeron mobile is just a function of the chipset - so no problems there correct?
Does anybody out there have such a board with the ATI graph - or a site suggestion? Anybody thoughts on the going rate for such a board?
(George, nice job on the King Crimson quote - always good to see appreciation fot the classics.)
Thank you all.

Re: IBM T43 Needs a Motherboard
Unless you do a lot of graphic-intensive stuff, an Intel-based board will perform just fine, while giving you a cooler-running machine and better battery life.
IBM had some restrictions placed on these machines (T4x/R5x) so some mods that should work in the realm of common sense do not actually work in the real world...that's pretty much the simplest way I can describe the whole debacle...

Re: IBM T43 Needs a Motherboard
T43/ATI motherboards go for about $100.- and up on eBay.
I have a tested R52 motherboard for you, $60.- incl. shipping.
But feel free to post a WTB (want to buy) ad in our Market forum.

Re: IBM T43 Needs a Motherboard
Dear RBS,
Thank you for your offer. I will keep it in mind. But, I may look elsewhere first, fore the LT will be used for Netflix and light game stuff, so perhaps I would like to try and stick with the ATI graphics. I'll keep a look out in the board room and see what ebay has to offer. Thank you again though, and if I have no luck, might take you up on it.

Re: IBM T43 Needs a Motherboard
Greetings.
Thank you all for your help. It seams I have found a board - a t43 2687 D4U.
First, is there a consesus that this board will fit my box? No mounting problems?
Second, My t43 2686DJU network card should work in a T43 2687-D4U, yes? It seems the D4U is 2 years newer, but can't imagine an issue - both are 802.11g - anyone have an opinion or thought?
Thank you as always,
Preetcher

Everything should work out of the box. No issues anywhere.
