Accident with T23
Accident with T23
Hi,
I had an accident with my T23. I tipped apple juice over the keyboard. The notebook turned off immediately. Now it can no longer be switched on. I cleaned the keyboard but I am not sure which internal parts are concerned. Can anybody give a recommandation how to proceed. I intend to check the internal parts whether they have been affected but I cannot decide whether its just a keyboard matter or whether its more, e.g. the motherboard.
Thanks,
Kilian

I'm guessing you've fried the mother board. The worst thing you can do is attempt to switch the machine back on, you should have let it dry out first. Having said that the damage has probably already been done.
Is your machine under warranty still?

Hi,
I thought that it was already dry. Unfortunately, obviously not yet. I guess it got a short circuit. The computer is still under warranty but I opened a call with IBM as I needed the computer very urgently. However, the only option I had was to send it in. Thus, I obtained another notebook for the meantime and did not send it in as yet.
I hesitate to send it in as the costs are most probably very high.

Hi,
well I think such accidents are not covered by warranty.
I meanwhile opened the notebook and as far as I can see there are no traces of juice on the motherboard or other electronic parts. If that is the case could it be that just the keyboard is out of order? Then, I would try to purchase a keyboard.

Kilian

Try a used keyboard from ebay, they're under $20. That at least will eliminate the keyboard as a problem. I have noticed that my T22 will not boot (won't even power on) if the keyboard is not properly seated, so I'm speculating that a dead keyboard might do the same thing.
If it's not the keyboard, try warranty. If juice doesn't show up inside the machine, and you don't tell IBM what happened....
You can also find pulled T23 mobos around, I think around $100, but at that point you're starting to put money into the machine on speculation.
