FlexView USGA vs FlexView SXGA
FlexView USGA vs FlexView SXGA
I searched for comparisons between the two screens on the forum, but haven't come up with much.
Other than the obvious difference... resolution... I'm curious about the difference between the two screens, in terms of brightness, color, and contrast.

Re: FlexView USGA vs FlexView SXGA
I have ThinkPads with both resolutions in Flexview, and don't see much, if any, difference between the two other than resolution. That is, when comparing screens of similar age. If one panel is much newer than the other, there will be considerable difference because these panels tend to get dim and yellow with age.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E
Re: FlexView USGA vs FlexView SXGA
I would agree. I've had them both, though a few years apart. They're both excellent screens, but the LG is known to dim/yellow more over time. Though each screen will tell it's own story. I went with the LG this time, mainly because the Hydis was almost twice as expensive and I didn't want to spend a lot.

Re: FlexView USGA vs FlexView SXGA
It really comes down to the particular panel that one is observing at the moment, but in general, LG - which is the most common SXGA+ LCD on 15" IPS units - doesn't age well. It is very pretty while new, though.
I have yet to see a Hydis 15" SXGA+ which was one of the options on T60/p models...
Early 15" T42s had ID Tech SXGA+ panels which were very nice. Hard to find one nowadays...
In closing...I like my real estate, and would always go with UXGA if at all possible. UXGA panels - be it ID Tech or Hydis - also seem to age a bit slower than their Philips SXGA+ counterparts.
My $0.02 only...

Re: FlexView USGA vs FlexView SXGA
I agree, my T60 has an UXGA Hydis panel, and my parents-in-law have a T60 with SXGA+ IPS screen. Today I noticed their screen was much more dim, however I don't know which panel their T60 has. My Hydis panel is still in good shape, no yellowing and not dim after a good 4-5 years of use.

So...on a T60P the SXGA could either be an LG, a Boe Hydis, or an IDTech? Were the LGs found more commonly on the Core Duo T60Ps, or on the Core 2 Duo T60Ps?

Re: FlexView USGA vs FlexView SXGA
ID Tech was an option (SXGA+) only on early T4x series. I've never heard of one being used in a T6x, unlike their UXGA panels.taichi wrote:So...on a T60P the SXGA could either be an LG, a Boe Hydis, or an IDTech? Were the LGs found more commonly on the Core Duo T60Ps, or on the Core 2 Duo T60Ps?
Hydis 15" SXGA+ is in HMM, but I have yet to see one with my own eyes.
Every single SXGA+ IPS panel that I've ever come across in the T6x range was LG...YMMV.

Re: FlexView USGA vs FlexView SXGA
Well, my choice is typically the UXGA (and is on my present machine), but if I'm looking at a machine with an SXGA, then I'm looking at an LG...with early dimming, and yellowing, I take it.ajkula66 wrote:...ID Tech was an option (SXGA+) only on early T4x series. That being said, there's absolutely nothing preventing you from dropping an UXGA panel in there...

Well, you know, George, that I'm saving that Boe Hydis we both bought for a rainy day.ajkula66 wrote:

Just don't know what constitutes the right rainy day...
