fireGL v5200 vs x3100 graphics

I'm starting to consider doing the t60p/t61 mod...

I do some 3d rendering, so graphics performance is important. I've searched around but haven't found any info on performance of fireGL v5200 vs x3100; maybe it's supposed to be obvious! Before I think about this mod, I need to know if the x3100 graphics are up to the task, and if not what are the alternatives?

A v5200 - better a v5250 is a MUST for this task!
A x3100 barely keeps up with the Windows 7
Aero effects....lets not even start with graphics....
Make shure, you have a good Dual core and proper cooling!

So... is it possible to do the UXGA t60p/ t61 mod and retain the 3d graphics capability? Has it been done?

You will have to wait for some1 who is able to answer this question for you, since I am not specialized in ThinkPad custom mods...

This gives you a rough indication of its performance...

For reference here are the scores of the other T60 and T61 graphics cards:

My advice, if you need graphic performance from a T61 series, get a T61p widescreen with 08/08 date, while they can still be sourced. The only way you're going to get a reliable discrete gpu chip on a 4:3 t61 board is to get a refurbished board from lenovo. I believe they cost $575 and you need an identical board in trade. I've been trying to get one for quite some time myself.

Of course, but I'm not at all ready to give up on 4:3, otherwise I wouldn't be considering all this.
