My Kingspec 64GB PATA SSD just died? HELP! Recovery wanted!

#1 Post by re404 » Mon Mar 05, 2012 5:46 pm

Hi all,

:(

My Kingspec 64GB PATA SSD ( KSD-PA18.1-064MJ ) that I've been using happily in my X41 tablet (under windows 7) for quite a while does not boot anymore "No OS found".

I've put it in a USB enclosure and I've looked at the drive from another Windows 7 PC, from OSX and from Ubuntu. Everywhere it now shows up as a 4 GB drive called "JM Loader 001".

A bit of Googling and fiddling around didn't give me much hope. It seems to be some kind of factory mode that it went into and from what I've read so far not may people seem to be able to handle it from there ...

Of course I backed up way too long ago very important files like my business administration that is on the drive.

Can anyone advise me what to try ? please  I would be so thankful !

Hi RBS,

I found that too and had a look at it, but didn't dare to try it yet.
The manual I found by googling SATAISP.exe says:
"This update tool can be only used to FTM56GL25H and FTD28GL25H.
• Limitation: This tool only works with SATA port configured to “Legacy/Compatility” mode or “Enhanced IDE” mode. “AHCI” mode is not supported."

And of course it's not one of those, plus it's a PATA version, not SATA, so maybe if I try and it does something I'll only make it worse ... but maybe I will try anyway later, until then any other lead is more than welcome.

Thanks again. Cheers,
Remko

Looks like SSDs aren't as reliable as they say. Lesson learned: backup often.

Kingspec doesn't exactly have a spotless reputation... I've read plenty of stories about these SSDs suddenly dying, and don't recall coming across any solution.
X60 tablet 6363-P3U, 3GB ram, 128GB SanDisk Extreme SSD, SXGA+ screen, Intel 6300
T61 Frankenpad in 15 inch T60 body, UXGA LED-lit AFFS LCD, T9300, 6GB RAM, NVidia NVS140m, Intel 6205, 128GB Crucial M4 SSD, 1TB HGST HDD + eBay caddy in Ultrabay
