ThinkPad T42 533 MHz 2.13 GHz... Help!!!

OK, so I found a thread on here with the pencil trick to get my ThinkPad up to 533 MHz bus speed to run my new 2.13 GHz Pentium M 770, but now the stupid multiplier is stuck. I can manually adjust it in Windows 8 with NHC, but I really want it to work automatically again... Help!!!!

Turns out, it was Windows. In Ubuntu, it's switching automatically just fine So cool to have T43 speed in a T42!

Later stepping processors ("A" processors) can still step, but not properly in Windows without NHC. I have run two 1.7s at 2.26 and been through "that" problem. BTW, been running 2.26 GHz since early November and zero issues whatsoever. Makes for a speedy machine when paired with an SSD via PATA to SATA bridge.

Hi firepowerff, an out-of-topic question please: how is the Windows 8 running on T43? Is it faster than Windows 7? And what about drivers, everything works?
