New screen for x60, q just to make sure

#1 Post by Skirmitt » Mon Mar 12, 2012 10:11 am

I bought a second hand x60 for a good price, knowing the screen has a defect in it.
Replacing the screen is no problem, as I do electronic repairs for living.

But, I read a lot about replacement screens for the X60. Googling confuses me, I can buy a Samsung LTN121XJ-L02 at a good price brand new but I need to be sure if this one will work. The L07 will I guess but I can not find it at a good price.

Can I buy this knowing it will work or do I need to check some things internal first.

I don't know about the LCD version differences by heart but it it may very well mean a bit different pinout or something. I would suggest to search for datasheets by googling and compare pinouts at least in order to avoid blowing the system board.

The pins do match. So no risk for blowing it up I guess.

Hi Skirmitt,

Here is some information on screens that fit different Thinkpads:

There may be others that also fit.

Good health, Weogo

My guess is that the EDID chip will be missing, if it is not the -L07 version.

At least X60 works perfectly ok without the EDID chip. I swapped in an LCD panel from X31 (had to use adapter cable, pinout is different) and it worked fine, no issues.

BIOS is hardcoded for XGA, hence no need for EDID chip.

I ordered an L02 screen. I'll post the result here for further reference.

Changed the screen in about 30 minutes. I can now confirm that an L02 screen will work

Thank you Skirmitt for doing the research! I installed LTN121XJ-L02, Dell part number 07T816 from Latitude D400, in a X60. It works! The bezel on top is maybe half a millimetre taller, so it was a squeeze to fit in.

True, the new screen was a bit harder to get in. After all when in place there isn't too much pressure. Mine is still working like a charm. This X60 is such a nice machine.

Another confirmation: Samsung LTN121XJ-L02 from Dell Latitude D410 successfully transplanted into my cousin's Thinkpad X60. :D

It is a bit tight at the top; had to push it up a bit to align the screw holes to the frame.
Fortunately I didn't have to cut anything off the antennas. :D
