X60T hinge(s) questions

#1 Post by digitania » Mon Mar 12, 2012 12:55 pm

Just acquired an X60T that I intend to give to my daughter. Other than the battery being toast, it seems to be in good shape with the exception of the up-down hinge. It has quite a bit of play in it (15-20 degrees worth) and will not hold the screen past a certain open angle.

Is it possible to tighten this hinge, or am I looking completely at replacement?

If replacement, what is the best source?

Thanks.

I have my old one out, and it doesn't appear easy to tighten, but that would be cool if someone knew how.

There's an active source in this discussion...

There is no adjustment. The fix is "new hinge".

It is actually possible to tighten the hinge.
First you should check the two screws in the bottom of the hinge which hold the rotating portion if they are tight. If they are but you still get wobble in rotating direction, loosen the screws and take the thing apart. THere are two spring washers and you have to swap them (swap upper to lower and vice versa), then tighten the two screws and you have tight hinge again, at least for some time (depends how often you turn it into Tablet mode).

But usually up and down play means that one of the hinge sides inside the screen assembly has broken. Then you need new hinge definitely.

Hi!
I replaced my hinge last month, and there was some very useful information here http://techgrrl.wordpress.com/2010/08/2 ... 61-tablet/

As you can see in the blog above there's some videos at Lenovo's site teaching how to disassemble your laptop (http://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/io ... index.html go to FRU removals => Complete system disassemble).

I bought my hinge at ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Lenovo-Thin ... 1261wt_932

I hope it help you
