A20M CPU speed reported too low

#1 Post by Scott » Fri Apr 15, 2005 3:13 pm

I have a customer that replaced a 08K3268 motherboard with a 08k3315. The new board shows the CPU speed as 500 (it is a 700 and ran as a 700 on the old board). 500 shows in the POST and in Windows. Is there some sort power setting in the BIOS that is coming into play?

The only difference in the motherboards is that the old one has 4Mb of video memory, and the new has 8MB. He reports that everything else is working properly.

Thanks in advance
Scott

I don't have the time to look up the part numbers, but if you replaced your board with a celeron board.... it clocks down a speedstep cpu... if you did replace with a p3 board, go into bios, enable speedstep (disabled locks the speed low)

Your A20m 3315 motherboard is only for Celeron CPU with maximum speed up to 500. The 3315 mb has no Intel Speedstep function that your Pentium 700 will be set to the minimum of about 500. Likewise if you put the 800 cpu, it will be about 650. Dont replace your motherboard with 3315 motherboard, it is only for Celeron.
