600E generic main battery

#1 Post by Robert » Fri Apr 15, 2005 6:15 pm

Hello out there,

Anybody know whether an IBM Battery will render a higher reading on the fuel guage compared to an unknown (generic)?

I have had a generic for about a month and it will never charge high enough on the fuel guage to satisfy the requirements of haveing a FULLY
CHARGED battery, so I am not able to proceed with a BIOS update. IBM
info says you have to update to run winXP. XP is my goal.

Cheers and Thanks,

Robert

I've had 3rd party batteries in my 600E's and 600X's. When they are quite bad, all of mine have charged to 100%. They drop to 10% in minutes, but they do charge to 100%.

I would try a deep cycle. Get PC-Doctor or run the memory test, or download memtest86 to floppy and run it until power fails and then charge with the power off to top off the battery. Do it again if it doesn't reach 100%. If twice doesn't work... maybe it's time to get a new battery... or use a hack to get around the requirement.
