Safe to delete C:\Drivers ???

System is a ThinkPad R50e. I need to free up disk space.

Is it safe to delete the contents of C:\Drivers ? Are these only install files, or are any of them actually used by the laptop?

What about C:\IBMTools ?

You might want to make a backup of them, but it shouldn't effect anything.

Assuming you are running Windows XP without any problems, you might also want to delete all of the old restore points from System Restore. If you have a default installation and have been running the system for some time, that can mean 12% of your disk size is taken up by these checkpoints. You can do this by:

- accessing System Restore tab on the System Properties window by right-clicking the My Computer icon on your desktop (or off the Start menu) and choosing Properties; you can also get to it from Control Panel/System
- click the "Turn off System Restore" box
- click the "Apply" button
- click "Yes" to acknowledge the "Do you want to turn off System Restore?" prompt
- click the "Turn off System Restore" box again; which enables the feature
- move the slider to the left to select a smaller portion of the disk that is set aside for the restore points
- click the "Apply" button
- wait until the system creates the first restore point, then click the "Ok" button.

So you know for certain these files are only INSTALLATION files?

These SHOULD BE installation files.
Try renaming that folder to something else and use your computer for a few days. If nothing goes wrong, delete it.
