Can't enable bluetooth.
Hi...
I have a t40p and dell axim.
I can't seem to link the two to enable activesync.
I downloaded a driver from ibm, but when I install it I get this blue tray icon with a red bluetooth logo. When I click on it, it says Bluetooth device not found, please verify that your blueooth device is properly onnected and turned on.
Thanks.

Both of you ... run Start > Run... > devmgmt.msc > OK ... do you see a Bluetooth radio device listed? (Troels, yep, yours has the model/blue CDC by default. Have you checked if you have the correct drivers for your Bluetooth device installed? [Start > Run > appwiz.cpl])
2668-75U T43, 2GB RAM, 2nd hand NMB kybd, Dock II, spare Mini-Dock, and spare Port Replicators. Wacom BT tablet. Ultrabay 2nd HDD.
2672-KBU X32, 1.5GB RAM, 7200 rpm TravelStar HDD.

Thanks for the answer,
Nope no bluetooth radio devices in device manager "devmgmt.msc", nothing about bluetooth at all.
I had the IBM Bluetooth drivers installed: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-50245 I uninstalled it to try the Microsoft default SP2 driver again - but this didn't work either as I can't "turn on Bluetooth" which i must do according to the installation notes.
I forgot to say, I'm using another licensed version of Windows XP than what was pre-installed.

I suspect that you MUST have the correct IBM drivers and software installed to make it work. If you install, follow ALL the steps on that page, up to and including Step 23. I had a problem a few weeks back, and it was because I had skipped the last 11 steps. When you go through the entire thing, Windows will "discover" the new hardware.
If not,... you could remove the keyboard in accordance with the HMM to see if it IS in fact a modem/Bluetooth CDC.

I find bluetooth to be somewhat heavy handed, not exactly plug and play by any means. I have a T40 to which I added the bluetooth required items, an antenna, LED plates on outside and inside of the LCD and of course the bluetooth modem. Installion wasn't too difficult but I didn't have a bluetooth accessory to test it out! After I downloaded the latest bios and controller chip files from IBM and installed the IBM/bluethooth software I had two bluetooth icons in the task bar, one blue with a white logo the other blue with a red logo. The red logo reported no bluetooth devices found, the white gave configuration options but none worked. There were numerous references to bluetooth items in my settings "Hardware" but only after I turned it on using FN+F5.
I purchased a Targus bluetooth mini mouse today and after a frustrating 30 minutes I finally got it working. First I loaded the software from Targus which allowed the mouse to work but only with the Targus USB/bluetooth adaptor. I removed the Targus software and somewhere along the line the blue icon with the red logo disappeared never to return, I guess because there was now a bluetooth device in the area. I was begining to realize that bluetooth probably didn't connect as rapidly as plug and play so I slowed things down a little.
Starting from scratch I rebooted the the laptop, re-seated the mouse batteries and turned it on. Clicking on the blue/white icon gives an "Add bluetooth device" which is pretty simple to follow, as long as the mouse, in my case, stays active long enough. Either the mouse is "tricky" or I haven't quite got the hang of it yet but sometimes it's hard to get the mouse light to stay on long enough for it to be "found" and connect. I'd say about eight out of ten times I get it working without too much of a problem. Unfortunately bluetooth is not plug and play, so one has to re-connect each device on every re-boot. At least that's my take on the whole bluetooth thing unless I missed something, which I probably did!

Yes, there will.
The blue/red one ("I'm not working, waaaaaa") is the Microsoft crud which won't work, as expected, after the installation of the IBM software, which will. Somewhere in the MS configuration (Control Panel) you can tell it NOT to put an icon in the Windows "dessert tray." Say bye-bye, that's the last you'll see of the MS BT.
Tim, that red 'n white icon disappeared on ya because the Belkin stuff gave the MS stuff the boot.
BTW, you ought not to have to install anyone elses BT software to get a BT device to work. I'd be surprised if that Belkin software didn't muck things up. If a device doesn't work with the TP Bluetooth device, take it back.
Bluetooth takes a little learning, but once you've crossed that learning curve, erm, speed bump, it's pretty quick 'n easy. It's not literally plug 'n play, otherwise everyone with a BT phone or PDA (increasingly common) would be discovered "'n played" with on your PC ... a mess. Pairing usually requires a pass code exchange. In my experience, once it's set up, it works fine. Move files to and from my phone all the time.
There's another thread hereabouts (Bluetooth headset? yeah, that'sa one) in which we (posters) hashed out the config ins and outs. Search for that thread, all will become clear. Hey, even a dope like me got my BT headset paired up and working.

You won't believe this.davidspalding wrote:If not,... you could remove the keyboard in accordance with the HMM to see if it IS in fact a modem/Bluetooth CDC.
I spent 5 hours+ getting it to work. Decided to remove the keyboard to check if there in fact was a bluetooth card (like in http://www.pbase.com/kenn/t42_bluetooth) and it's unbelieveable, but there is NONE! There is space for one, antenna, etc. but no card
The laptop was bought second-hand (1 year old) so now I contacted the seller demanding an explanation for this!
It clearly should come with one, so he has obviously opened it and removed the card. What a freaking idiot! i could punch his face in

@troels:
If it is indeed the case that your machine did not come with bluetooth, here is a link to help you get started on your install.. Some machines have the parts that you need ( antennae etc ), if you do not, the install will not be as easy.
[edit]Did some checking in TABOOK, you do have the antenna so all you need is the card/clearplate as the link I pointed to indicates.
[/edit]
@bigoxygen:
Don't jump on the seller too quickly, according to IBM, the 2379DXU did NOT ship with Bluetooth. Compare it with this configurationto see the difference. The space for the card will be in pretty much all T42 machines. Not just yours. This seems a little weird to me since I thought that the modem should be in that space but it might ne that you machine has the modem at a different location. Check and see it the modem works, if it does, this is a good indicator that the machine is still at factory spec in at least that aspect. You won't believe this.

I think that you have a different problem from @troels, you have a Bluetooth card that needs to be configured correctly. This thread and this thread may helpHi...

The Tabook.pdf states that it has Modem/Bluetooth - so by reading that it should come with both installed fully. Furthermore, where i bought it from it was stated that it had bluetooth.
EDIT: Thanks for the link, by the way.
The IBM spec page (not in Tabook.pdf) is the only place i have seen where Bluetooth is not mentioned.

Yikes!
According to TABOOK #299, 2379-DXU shipped with a Modem Bluetooth CDC. The -DWU and -5VU shipped with Modem CDC's. I can't understand how the product support page only says "Modem (CDC)." Regardless, Troels should NOT have found the CDC spot EMPTY.
I don't claim to know exACTLY what should've been shipped, but that tells me that SOME CDC ought to be in there. if a seller didn't specify that the CDC was removed, I'd be yelling "Fraud." Now if the seller advertised that a Bluetooth CDC was in there,... "Double-fraud!"
Yes. The clear plate(s) are the indicator lights on the LCD. The internal one and smaller external one should have a "mask" with the BT logo on it to let the LED shine through. You ought to be able to tell with a strong flashlight.
Did you find the BT antenna lead, BTW? If you have neither the antenna lead, or the clear plates with BT indicator, maybe you got some -DXU that didn't have BT optional. (shrug)

The seller who resell pcs from larger firms has promised to look into what has happened since it was not installed (i.e. who removed it, and get a new/original one). He is very sorry, but he has not opened the laptop to remove the daughterboard.
Ahh ok, yes, the current clear plate is the correct one for bluetooth and will shine through.
Yes the bluetooth antenna wire is installed, along with the "metal surroundings" that holds the card. Only FRU part 91P7319 is missing.
Thank you

Page 205 of the hardware maintenance manualseems to think that the 2379DXU should have BlueTooth III too. Weird how IBM managed to make a hash of this.
