ThinkPad R61 big problem- need help
Hi,
I have big problem with my laptop R61, everything you can see in youtube movie. What is it? Could you help me solve this problem?
PS. What is strange when second screen is connected, everything's working well.

Hi thedogg, welcome to the forum...
I was not able to view your video (intermittent internet connection here), but I'm going to venture a guess that your machine has the infamous defective nVIDIA graphics chip.

Edit: I finally got to view the video, and if yours has the nVIDIA chip, I would still say that it's the problem.

It could be a bad LCD. As your second screen works well, it can't be the nvidia graphics issue.
I saw some flicker as well that could be due to bad connector cable ( or bad ccfl tube in lcd) and possibly that's the reason of this LCD problem as well. Test with a replacement LCD cable first before changing LCD.

Did you replace the whole lid, or just the screen itself, using same cable+inverter?
If the whole lid, start with replacing the inverter in the first lid, that one is definitely 'on the blink' (in other words: faulty).

The way I read this is, when an external monitor is connected, the external one doesn't show the defects".thedogg wrote:PS. What is strange when second screen is connected, everything's working well.
Why do you conclude this? The only way it "can't" be the GPU is if this T61 has the Intel GPU, and we don't know that because thedogg hasn't told us. I'm only guessing here based on the info given.sanjeevgpc wrote:As your second screen works well, it can't be the nvidia graphics issue.
I don't read anything in the original post that indicates anything at all has been replaced. Just shot some video to post on You Tube, and connected an external monitor.RealBlackStuff wrote:Did you replace the whole lid, or just the screen itself, using same cable+inverter?

With such a minimal and confusing amount of information, it's anybody's guess here.
The un-commented movie (first the flickering, then the stripes, and finally a reasonable boot) gives no indication whatsoever.
Perhaps OP can clarify WHAT exactly he has done?

Re: ThinkPad R61 big problem- need help
Sorry guys but I am not in my country at the moment, I will be back for one week, and after that I can include video with second monitor. Only what I can say, the computer had been working for one week and after that the situation was repeated. On second monitor screen was OK but I couldn't log on windows.
I am going to send laptop to service, but I don't know is it profitable.
PS. Moreover when I start the game, situation was repeated (BSoD) and the computer restarted.
